A new strain of ransomware has been discovered written in JavaScript called RAA.
JavaScript files can often run without the usual security prompts and alerts you often see when running an executable program such as those ending .exe.
RAA is one of the encryption based threats that once infected will start encrypting files on your PC and connected network drives. There is currently no way to reverse this.
If you receive any emails with an attachment that ends with .js, please delete immediately. There should be no valid reason to send a .js file as an attachment.
As a general rule you should always try to be vigilant when opening emails with attachments from unknown senders or if the email seems a little out of character. If in ANY doubt, please delete the email and contact the sender to confirm if it is genuine and if so ask them to resend, BEFORE you attempt to open the attachment.
